As we move into the Labor Day holiday, I have the rare opportunity to enjoy 4 days off – only two easy classes to teach Saturday morning. I’m so ready for the break. Flight attendants tell us that, in the event of an emergency, we should put on our own oxygen mask first before helping others with theirs. I recently read that this is a metaphor for self-care. We need to stop and take care of ourselves first, so we have the energy to take care of others.
As someone who makes a living taking care of others, I’m taking this idea to heart this weekend. I’m saying “no” to whatever I don’t feel like doing, and saying “yes” to whatever my spirit wants. I’m putting on my oxygen mask and breathing deeply.
What can you do to let your spirit breathe today?
